Water shortage exacerbates tensions between Turkey and Syrian Kurds

We begin our tour of the British press from The Independent and a report by its correspondent Borzo Dragahi, from Tel Abyad in Syria entitled: "Water shortage exacerbates tensions between Turkey and Kurds in northeastern Syria."
The reporter reports that there has been a shortage of electricity for months in Tel Abyad, resulting in a shortage of available water.
He says this has exacerbated continuing geopolitical tensions between both the Turkish government and the Kurds in the region and the Syrian regime, and raised fears of another armed conflict.
Turkey captured Tal Abyad in 2019 from Kurdish-led PYD forces, but the Kurds continue to hold on to the strategic Manbij area to the west, where the main Tishreen Dam is located and generates up to 600 megawatts of energy.
